Brenntag Opens Life Sciences Innovation & Application Centre in Shanghai

New Facility to Strengthen Regional Innovation Support

German chemicals and ingredients distributor Brenntag has announced the opening of its new Life Sciences Innovation & Application Centre in Shanghai, China, aimed at strengthening support for customers and suppliers across China and Hong Kong.

According to the company, the facility will function as a collaborative innovation platform focused on formulation development, application testing, and concept creation across Brenntag’s Life Sciences portfolio.

Brenntag stated that the centre is designed to help translate ingredient expertise into market-ready solutions aligned with evolving consumer and industry requirements.

Focus on Formulation Development and Application Testing

The new centre will support formulation activities for multiple personal care and home care categories. The facility is equipped with formulation and testing capabilities including:

  • Emulsion structure analysis
  • Surfactant foam performance evaluation
  • Hair combing force testing
  • Skin analysis
  • Laundry performance testing

Brenntag added that the laboratory-scale mixing system will support small-batch production trials and process validation for formulation optimisation.

The company also noted that the centre will contribute to innovation development in food and nutrition applications, covering categories such as:

  • Ready-to-drink beverages
  • Dairy
  • Bakery
  • Confectionery
  • Savoury products

Strategic Expansion Across APAC Life Sciences Operations

Brenntag stated that the Shanghai facility will support faster innovation cycles and closer collaboration with regional partners across the value chain.

The company indicated that the centre will focus on developing concepts aligned with changing consumer preferences and emerging health and wellness trends across the Asia-Pacific market.
