Startup Secures Capital to Scale Sustainable Laundry Solutions
Lavella, a sustainable home care startup founded by six students from Tetr College of Business, has raised a seed funding round led by Sifat Khuana, Founder and Chief Business Officer of Innovist, along with participation from several early-stage investors.
The company plans to use the funding to support R&D, laboratory testing, certifications, logistics, and market expansion as it seeks to scale its detergent-sheet format in India.
Lavella also intends to strengthen its e-commerce presence, pursue B2B partnerships, explore offline retail opportunities, and introduce subscription-based purchasing models.

Detergent Sheets Target Convenience and Sustainability
Lavella manufactures dissolvable detergent sheets designed for machine-wash applications. The water-free format combines detergent, fabric softener, and fragrance into a single sheet, offering an alternative to conventional liquid detergents.
According to the company, the product uses a plant-based, biodegradable formulation and can reduce water usage by up to 70% compared with traditional liquid detergent formats.
The startup positions the innovation as a response to challenges associated with bulky packaging, storage requirements, and transportation inefficiencies commonly found in conventional laundry products.
Emerging Opportunity in India’s Home Care Market
Lavella estimates the Indian machine-wash laundry market to be worth more than ₹80,000 crore, with the eco-conscious segment representing a significant growth opportunity.
The funding highlights growing investor interest in sustainable home care formats that combine environmental benefits with convenience-driven product design.
For home care manufacturers and ingredient suppliers, the development reflects broader industry trends toward:
- Waterless product formats
- Sustainable packaging solutions
- Biodegradable formulations
- Concentrated cleaning systems
- Innovation in household care delivery formats
As sustainability continues to influence product development across the home care sector, detergent sheets may emerge as a niche but increasingly visible category within India’s evolving laundry care market.
