The growing confidence and expanding capabilities of China’s personal care ingredients industry were on full display at the 2026 edition of the Personal Care and Homecare Ingredients (PCHI) 2026 exhibition, held in Guangzhou from 18–20 March.
Recognised as China’s leading sourcing platform for personal care and homecare ingredients, the event brought together more than 860 exhibitors from 26 countries and regions across 100,000 square metres of exhibition space. The exhibition attracted over 50,000 visitors, including manufacturers, formulators, R&D professionals, regulatory specialists and brand leaders seeking insights into emerging technologies and sourcing opportunities.
Organised by Reed Sinopharm Exhibitions, PCHI has increasingly evolved beyond a sourcing exhibition into a showcase for China’s rapidly advancing cosmetic science ecosystem.

China Accelerates Science-Led Skincare Innovation
While Europe and the US have traditionally dominated cosmetic innovation, Chinese companies are increasingly positioning themselves as leaders in science-based skincare development. At this year’s exhibition, the momentum behind advanced biotechnology ingredients was especially evident.
Chinese manufacturers showcased growing expertise in high-demand actives such as hyaluronic acid, peptides, recombinant collagen and polydeoxyribonucleotides (PDRNs). Industry observers noted that Chinese companies are not only innovating rapidly but also scaling production capabilities at remarkable speed.
A major theme emerging from the event was the shift towards formulations designed to work at the cellular level. Rather than focusing solely on visible symptoms, brands are increasingly targeting biological pathways involving DNA repair, mitochondrial activity, cell signalling and the skin microbiome.
This evolution reflects a broader transformation in the Chinese beauty and personal care market, where rapid consumer feedback cycles are reshaping product development timelines. Unlike the traditional seasonal launch model common in Western markets, Chinese brands are continuously refining and updating formulations in response to real-time consumer engagement.

Microbiome Science and Fermented Ingredients Gain Momentum
Visitors also observed strong interest in microbiome-focused skincare technologies, fermented traditional Chinese medicine extracts and advanced delivery systems aimed at improving ingredient absorption while reducing irritation.
The integration of fermented botanical actives with modern biotechnology drew particular attention, highlighting how Chinese ingredient suppliers are combining traditional knowledge with contemporary cosmetic science.
Gentler delivery mechanisms that enable the use of higher-performance actives without compromising skin tolerance were another recurring area of innovation across exhibitor showcases.
Platform for Technology Evaluation and Collaboration
For attendees, PCHI 2026 offered an opportunity to directly evaluate emerging technologies and engage with ingredient developers and suppliers. Many visitors highlighted the concentration of technical expertise and ingredient innovation available at the event, describing it as a valuable environment for assessing new formulation solutions and exchanging industry insights.
As global demand for scientifically backed skincare continues to grow, this year’s PCHI exhibition reinforced China’s ambition to become not only a manufacturing powerhouse, but also a key driver of next-generation cosmetic ingredient innovation.
